We all have those things we enjoy complaining about and mine just happens to be beauty products! Listed below are the beauty products I plan on never purchasing again and why!
R+Co Death Valley Dry Shampoo: I got this from a Birchbox event I attended about a month ago and the bottle is pretty and everything, but what comes out is definitely not dry shampoo. The dry shampoos I usually use come out somewhat powdery and seem to soak up the grease in my hair after I rub it in and comb it through. I literally cannot see or feel anything when I spray this onto my roots – so disappointing because it had such great reviews.
Smashbox Halo Hydrating Powder: I picked this stuff up at the beginning of the summer and honestly thought I liked it, but what I would find out is that it’s my face’s enemy! The lady at the counter told me this powder would not “cake” on my face and uses gold flakes to give your skin a glowing look. Well, this powder did indeed cake on my face and started to separate throughout the day. Easily the worst powder I’ve ever used.
Redken Extreme Anti-Snap Leave-In Fortifier: This was a sad purchase for me. I spent almost an hour in Ulta searching for the best leave in conditioner, no matter the cost. After having poor searching skills, I asked a worker what their top selling, most applaud-worthy leave-in was. She led me to the Redken line and I went home to give it a try! After using the product for 2-3 weeks, I found that it actually made my hair MORE brittle. I went in for a haircut the next week and my stylist asked what product I had been using on my hair because it ruined my ends. Thanks Redken…
Not Your Mother’s “Clean Freak” Shampoo and Conditioner: Now, I use a few “Not Your Mother’s” products and really do love them, a lot, but these two left me stumped – where did they go wrong? For about a week, I used two samples of the product and found it did not clean my hair at all. Even after blow drying my hair it was still full of grease (sounds nasty, but I’m not joking).
Tom’s Organic Deodorant: This was also an extremely unfortunate purchase. When I eat a fair amount of gluten or sweat a bit too much, which is more often than not, I get these strange rashes under my armpits (TMI, but I’m sure someone out there can relate). So, I decided to see if some all-natural deodorant would help cure some of my symptoms. Well, guess what, it made it worse! A few hours after I applied the deodorant, I had small burns and a larger area of rashes. Sorry, Toms, never again.
Neutrogena Shine Control Primer: I went to Target and chatted with one of the ladies working in the makeup area and told her I was looking for a primer that would help control my oiliness. She said this is one of their top sellers and that she even uses it on a daily basis, plus it was only $7.00, so I snagged it right away! When I used it, it came out looking and feeling like an exfoliator (grainy, sandy, rough). I was so appalled and won’t ever put it on my face again!
